Following my 'What to wear at your maternity photo session' blog post, I decided it would be a fun idea to share some examples of outfits that wouldn't work as well. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I dislike the dresses I have added to the gallery above - they do make wonderful outfits for the modern mama.
To best explain what should be avoided during a maternity photoshoot, I have compiled and easy to follow list:
1. Too loose a fit
Maternity photo shoots are all about accentuating the bump. Very loose-fitting dresses may hide all your curves, creating an undesired 'balloon-effect'. See dress 1 and 5 as examples
2. Strong patterns and prints
There is nothing more distracting than large, eye-catching prints. This holds especially true for floral dresses. They are really lovely and look wonderful at a summer BBQ, but at your maternity photo shoot, you would want the focus to be on your gorgeous bump and your glowing face.
3. Frills, ruffles and more
Ruffles and frills are great at making any outfit look youthful and playful. Yet at maternity shoots, they can feel a bit limiting, as they tend to add quite a bit of volume (not necessarily in desired places), depending on the angles. Moreover, just like bit polka dots and flower patterns, they can distract from the main star of the shoot - you!
